Disney Moderate Resorts
Disney Moderate Resorts:   Disney moderate resorts are a step up from the value Resorts. Moderate resorts usually offers food courts and restaurants. The room rates for Moderate Resorts average $170 per night. To get room rates for Moderate Resorts visit : www.wdwinfo.com/wdwinfo/disney-rates-2008.htm#moderate  Most moderate resorts offer extra activities such as bike rentals, 4-5 person bike rentals, themed pools, hot tubs, sea sprites(mini-motor boats), Boston Whaler(larger motor boats) rental, horse drawn carriage rides and gift shops. If you decide to stay at a moderate resort choose your resort carefully and wisely.  Choose a resort to fit your needs because each moderate resort is designed for different purposes. Disney Port Orleans:   This resort is actually broken up into two separate resorts. One being Disney Port Orleans French Quarters and the other Disney Port Orleans Riverside. Both setting within walking distance from each other. Out of all the moderate resorts I believe these two offer more to the Disney visitor than the other moderate resorts. Port Orleans is a moderate favorite. Disney Port Orleans French Quarters: The French Quarters is a nice resort with the ambiance of New Orleans during the Mardi Gras. With beads and Mardi Gras coins in the lobby fountain the resort really gives you the feel for Orleans. As you explore around the resort the air is filled with jazz music. The swimming pool has a jazz theme of alligators dressed for the Mardi Gras and jazzing it up on their band instruments. The pool has a slide designed as a sea serpent with King Titan riding on top. There is also a poolside bar. This resort also has a hot tub near the pool as well. The resort rooms are just large enough to house a family of four. The French Quarters has two options in transportation. To get to theme parks you must catch a Disney Bus (motor coach) infront of the resort. The buses run less than every 10 to 20 minutes (not a very long wait.) To get to the Downtown Disney Market you can either take a Disney Bus or catch the Disney Water Taxi. The Water Taxi’s dock is located near the pool. The French Quarters has a gift shop and a food court. Within the “Sassagoula Floatworks”, which is the food court, you can find a large variety of different types of food. The food court also has its own pizzeria and its own bakery with different types of pies and sweets. Here the food court is open from 7:00 A.M. to midnight serving breakfast, lunch and dinner along with snacks. At the food court you can also purchase a refillable souvenir cup at a reasonable price.                                                                                                   Disney Port Orleans Riverside : Port Orleans Riverside in a very nice relaxing resort. This resort has been voted Disney’s most romantic resort. With a beautiful view of the canal the scenery really hits home. Large trees with plantation style buildings this resort really gives you a feel for the old style of southern living. The Port Orleans Riverside has a little larger rooms than the French Quarters. This resort can hold a family of 5 per room. With all it’s southern charm this resort has a lot to offer in extra activities from bike riding, horse drawn carriage rides, boat rentals swimming pool, fishing pond, kayak rentals, beautiful walk ways and bicycle buggy rentals (4-5 person bike).                 Port Orleans Riverside has two types of transportation, same as the French Quarters. Water Taxi’s travel to Downtown Disney as well as to the French Quarters. To get to the theme parks you must catch a Disney bus. At Riverside there is a food court, “The Riverside Mill”, that serves a large variety of food. If you’re in the mood for a nice set down meal try “Boatwright’s” restaurant. Boatwright’s has a wonderful breakfast menu. You must try the sweet potato cakes with a side of ham or bacon. These are by far the best pancakes ever made!!! Made with real sweet potatoes and served with honey-pecan butter. WOW!!! Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort: This colorful resort is set up to give you the feel for the Caribbean with its tropical ambiance. The transportation from this resort is by bus only to theme parks or to Downtown Disney.  This resort has its own lake with white sand beaches. At this resort included into the marina water craft rentals are small sail boats. Other activities include bike rentals, an old Spanish pirate fort themed swimming pool with water slide and water falls, and a tropical walking trail named Parrott cay walking trail. Along the trail you may encounter exotic birds and plants. This resort is furnished with the
Old Port Royale Food Court
that is counter serviced with a wide variety of food along with its set down restaurant “Shutters at Old Port Royal”. The rooms at this resort are just large enough to have 4 guests to a room.                          Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort: Disney claims this to be one of their romantic resorts however I’m not so sure. This is a nice resort. This resort has a south of the boarder type theme. Mexico style buildings mixed with an Aztec design.  Coronado sets off a lake where you can rent Kayaks and other types of water crafts. Beautiful scenery along the resort. The featured pool is a large pool known as the “Dig Sight” pool. This pool is unique in design. With water flowing down steps of ancient looking Mayan ruins the pool area is a place for relaxation. This resort also has the largest hot tub of all the resorts. The reason I say I’m not so sure about Disney or anyone else claiming this to be a romantic resort is because this resort holds seminars for companies. If you decide to stay at the Coronado Springs you may encounter large groups of people, people not there for a relaxing vacation but there for business purposes. When I say large groups of people I mean thousands of people wearing business attire with company I.D. badges and name badges. A lot of their business seminars are held in the open within the resort were it gets loud and annoying. At times it’s so thick of people with these seminars or Business retreats as they call them, it gets annoying very quickly. The Coronado Springs Has a food court similar to the other moderate resorts. The food court is named “The Pepper Market.” About the only difference between this food court and the others is that The Pepper Market also offers some Mexican food as well. The set down restaurant at the Coronado Springs is named the “Maya Grill”. It specializes in food that is considered Southwestern meals. To be perfectly honest with you, it was just ok. Nothing great about it. This resort houses up to a family of 4 per room.  There are some suites that can hold up to a family of 6. Transportation from the resort to theme parks and to Downtown Disney is by Disney Buses only.  If you decide to stay at a Disney Moderate Resort I would recommend Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarters or Disney’s Port Orleans Riverside.
